Sway privacy policy

Last updated 03 September 2026

Sway collects nothing. This page explains what that means in practice.

What is collected

Nothing. Sway does not collect, transmit, sell or share any personal information. There is no account, no sign-in, and no server that belongs to us.

Where your data lives

Your storm log, your trusted contact and your settings are written to this device's private app storage. They are never uploaded, never backed up to us, and never shared. Uninstalling the app deletes them. Sway can export the whole log as a plain text file at any time, and can erase everything on request from the Shelter screen.

Network

Sway does not request the INTERNET permission. It cannot send your data anywhere, because Android will not let it open a network connection at all. This is verifiable in the app's manifest on the Play listing.

Permissions

Children

Sway is not directed at children under 13 and collects nothing from anyone, of any age.

Analytics, ads and tracking

There are none. Sway contains no advertising SDK, no analytics SDK, and no crash reporter. It does not use an advertising ID.

Your rights

Because nothing is collected or transmitted, there is nothing held about you to access, correct or delete on a server. Uninstalling the app removes its data from your device. Any in-app export gives you a copy of your own content in an open format.

Phone calls and messages

The night shelf can hand a number to your phone's dialler: the person you saved, a public crisis line, or your local emergency number. One bundled line is a text service rather than a phone line, and that one opens your messaging app with the message ready instead. Sway does not have permission to place a call or send a message itself. You decide whether to press call or send, and Sway never sees whether you did.

Crisis lines

The crisis line numbers are a small list bundled inside the app and shipped with app updates. Choosing your region only changes which of those bundled numbers is shown. Nothing about your location is measured, requested or sent, and the app has no location permission.

Export

Exporting writes a plain text file into this device's Downloads folder using your own tap. The file leaves the app only if you choose to send it somewhere yourself.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this address with a new date.
